International Relief Efforts:
Shelter Box — Providing emergency shelter and vital supplies to support communities around
the world overwhelmed by disaster and humanitarian crisis.
Polio Plus — Poliomyelitis (polio) is a paralyzing and potentially fatal disease that still threatens children
in some parts of the world. The poliovirus invades the nervous system and can cause total paralysis in a
matter of hours. It can strike at any age but mainly affects children under five. Polio is incurable, but
completely vaccine-preventable. Fewer than 40 children were paralysed by polio in 2016, the lowest
number in history. This is a dramatic decrease from the estimated 350,000 cases per year in 125
countries that the world saw in 1985 – the year that Rotary International initiated a worldwide effort to
eradicate this terrible disease.
Gift of Life — to provide life-saving and life-altering surgeries to as many of the worlds' needy
children with congenital heart defects. The program also collects, assembles, and ships critically
needed medical supplies to underdeveloped countries.
